Pre-Historic Figurines

The latest work shown on this site is the result of a Masters study exploring the Pre-historic figurines found across Europe from around 30,000ya - 20,000ya. My exploration has suggested many different activities in which these figurines were used - such as in ritual ceremonies, as play objects, and mementos of loved ones. I have concentrated on the area of ritual use and produced images that show the activity and how this activity might have looked in the caves or in a specified area. Much of the work is narrative but the series called Shadows resulted from a more conceptual approach.

About Me

Ann Hounslow was born in the small country town of Dalby on the Darling Downs in Queensland and studied at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba from 1982- 1985 in Visual Arts (majoring in painting and textiles) and Education.

Since then Ann has been a secondary art teacher in various Queensland schools and had many Solo and Joint exhibitions.  Ann has also received a regional development grant and studied with Andrew Sibley, Rod Milgate and Trevor Weeks.

Ann Hounslow's work runs in parallel with her life revealing her thoughts and feelings on the canvas.  Some art works tell a story, some are multi-layered and some use quirky figures to give it honesty.  The work exists in a two dimensional space, the images float up close and personal seducing the viewer with the use of the rich colours and decoration.
